JWAL Software

Accessibility

JWAL Software wants everyone to be able to use jwal.ai, including people who rely on assistive technology. This page says what standard the site is built to, how it is tested, what we know still falls short, and how to tell us about a barrier. Questions about anything here: jake.k@jwal.ai.

Standard

The site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, which is the technical standard referenced by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. The same standard applies to the documents and software JWAL delivers to agency clients.

What that means in practice

  • Every page is plain HTML that works without JavaScript. The only script on the site opens the phone menu and shows a call button.
  • Text and background colors meet the AA contrast ratio, including button labels and muted text.
  • Every page has one heading level one, a logical heading order, a skip link to the main content, and landmarks for the header, navigation, main content, and footer.
  • Every interactive element can be reached and operated with a keyboard and shows a visible focus indicator.
  • Images that carry meaning have text alternatives. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Tap targets on phones are at least 44 pixels tall, and the layout reflows to 320 pixels wide without horizontal scrolling.
  • Motion respects the reduced-motion preference in your operating system.

How it is tested

Before every release an automated check loads every page at five screen widths and tests for overflow, small tap targets, and heading structure, then runs the axe accessibility engine against WCAG 2.1 A and AA rules. Releases ship with zero axe violations. Pages are also spot-checked with VoiceOver on macOS and iOS.

Known limitations

  • The PDF one-pagers and the capability statement are generated from HTML and are tagged, but they have not yet been verified against the PDF/UA standard. Ask and we will send the content as accessible HTML or plain text.
  • Booking a call opens Calendly, a third-party service whose accessibility we do not control. Email or phone works just as well.
